Basics

If you are heading out for a trout fishing excursion, obviously, check the weather and dress appropriately. It is probably best to wear old clothes.

Make sure to obtain a fishing license, visit the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission for more details. Check the fishing regulations - Make sure to review the regulations that apply for your chosen fishing spot. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission sets aside many waterways for special types of fishing or restricted dates for fishing.

After that, the below list should assist in prepping for a short fishing excursion.

Basic Items:

  • Fishing vest (possibly hip waders if you want to stay dry, yet enter the water)
  • Tackle box
  • Rod and reel
  • Fresh line (older line causes 'bird's nests' in the spinning reel as well as becoming weak)
  • Extra hooks and sinkers
  • Bait/Lures
  • Fishing net (help land the fish)
  • Stringer to keep the fish fresh in the water
  • Something to clean your hands with
  • Possibly a cooler for any fish you plan to take home - as well as a cold beverage beforehand
