Hooks & Line
If you are fishing for trout, you will want to use smaller hooks. Not the smallest hooks, but obviously if the hook is too large, the fish will never be able to take the hook. There is no standard set for all hook sizes across manufacturers, but many follow similar sizing patterns. It is probably best to seek out a size 6 to 8 hook. This type of hook will be flexible enough to use with many different types of bait, live or non-live.
Line strength is measured in pounds. A six pound test line should be more than enough for the Yellow Breeches Creek. Heavier lines can be used but the strength of the line is mostly lost unless you are chasing fish other than trout. With that said, a lighter pound test line will break more easily, but the advantages are casting ability and sensitivity. A light line will allow you to cast longer distances with practice. Any strike on the line from a fish will be more easily detected. However, that will also depend on the type and strength of the rod.
