Rod & Reel
For Trout fishing on the Yellow Breeches, a suitable rod should be able to handle 6 pound test line. That should be sufficient for any size trout you would encounter on the water. A heavier line and rod could be used. My personal preference is an Ultra-light configuration (pictured below). This configuration uses four pound test line and a less bulky rod. This allows for greater sensitivity for detecting bites and strikes. It also means that catching a larger trout will require a bit more finesse in order to land it. With a heavier rod, it is possible to muscle the fish to the bank. With lighter weight equipment, landing the fish will take a little more time. See the Tips section for how to use a Spinng Rod and Reel.
Another alternative is a Fly fishing rod. Using a Fly fishing rod requires some practice and ability. It is quite different to fish using a Fly fishing rod. Locally, a good place to visit to see what Fly fishing is all about is Yellow Breeches Outfitters in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. This establishment is well known for having top notch Fly fishing equipment and tackle.
