Live baits that can be used for trout fishing include:

• Worms
• Minnows

• Crayfish
• Crickets
• Grasshoppers

 

There are likely others, but this should be good to get you started.

 

Use a sinker on your line about two feet above the bait to weight the bait down. The weight of the sinker needed will depend on the type of water you are fishing. Fast-moving vs. slow-moving water and the weight of the bait itself will affect how fast the bait sinks and if it stays put once the sinker hits the bottom. The idea is to get the bait to bounce along the bottom of the stream rather than stuck in one spot, normally.
